Tutoring Session 08/12/26 (Anna & Fadia)
Date/Time: Wednesday, August 12th, 12:30-1:30 PM
Location: Zoom Meeting
Topic/Skill: Future Perfect Continuous Verb Tense
Feedback provided to the tutee: During this tutoring session, I reviewed the future perfect and future continuous tenses. I then presented the future perfect continuous tense and asked my tutee to compare the three tenses, finding similarities/differences in structure and use. I had my tutee provide me with example sentences using the future perfect tense and corrected the structure if any errors were found. I also asked my tutee questions that prompted her to use the future perfect continuous in productive speech. If there was any error or hesitation, I referred back to the presentation slide on verb tense structure and use to refresh her memory and allow for self-correction.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: During this tutoring session, I learned the importance of not always deploying a "quiz-like" style of practice. I previously used a structure for teaching other verb tenses in which I reviewed the structure and use of each tense, asked my tutee to provide example sentences, and then presented my tutee with fill-in-the-blank questions to practice using the verb tense. However, this time I simply asked my tutee questions that prompted the use of the intended verb tense, and I found that the lack of structure helped my tutee better address errors that would more naturally occur in conversation.
